Last day of Touring in Italy

Saturday – Dec 4

Sausage and garlic for sale
Today was the day to go to Siena.  But it was raining hard, quite cold and we were wondering if going was such a good idea….but since there is nothing wimpy about us ( ha ha) we decided to go for it.

Home made pasta
When we got there the sky had cleared and we parked and walked to the main piazza where we were surprised to see tents set up with people selling all sorts of things.  We had totally forgot about the Christmas festival going on this weekend.  So we enjoyed seeing the crafts of the area and some furniture for sale and then we got to the food section and everyone was giving samples.  So we grazed thru that section tasting sausages, cheeses…olive oil on bread, cookies, fruit cakes.  Roger tasted some anise cookies that brought back memories for him of grandmas kitchen and so he bought a bagful.  Yum!!  There was also a fruit and veggie section and fresh pasta for sale.

Would you like a slice of wild boar?
After awhile we ate lunch tho it was not much since we had lots of samples.  I had soup that was a typical Toscana soup and it was amazing…wish I could learn to make it as well.

Do I have enough garlic for you?
We also took time to visit the huge cathedral.  It was the most ornate thing we have seen here.  It was kind of strange because they had a lot of paintings and décor that had nothing to do with the Bible at all…like a statue of Socrates and another art piece on the floor of different astrology images…you get the idea...very strange… very sad.

Mardi Gras??? type parade

We were getting ready to head home when we heard some strange music playing and saw some actors getting ready for something so we hung around to see what was going on…It was a mini mardi gra looking parade that went around the piazza.  The people were on stilts and quite funny looking.  One lady looked like she would fall over at any minute but didn’t.  I was sure glad as it would have been a far fall.
We are heading back to Spedaletto Castle for our last night here.  Tomorrow we head to Rome where we will spend a night before flying out early on Monday morning.

We have been refreshed, rested, reconnected as a couple and are ready for our next adventure.  We will be visiting Pam and Wayne Elliott and looking forward to it.  It will be fun to see Turkey and to see what their lives are like there.  I thank the Lord so much for this time we have had here in Italy.  It’s been amazing!
