Another Cold Snowy Day

Friday – Dec. 3

So…today when we woke up it was snowing!!   The mountains in the distance were covered and it had started to snow big flakes where we were.  Very excitng!!  We had planned to go to Siena for the day but since it was looking so dark and dreary we decided to drive to one of the Therme Spas (hot springs spa) that are all around this area.   We thought it would be a fun way to spend a cold day.  We chose one quite a ways away on the recommendation of the hostess and we took off.  I was begging Roger to take it slow and careful of course as the roads are quite curvy.  As we drove the sky cleared up and we were treated to some of the most breathtaking views of the countryside we have seen yet.  I know we say that every day but it was true.  The combination of snow and then green fields with dark clouds in some areas and sun in others made it even more beautiful.

As we were driving we saw several castles.  One in particular was on top of a very high hill and you could see it for miles.  We both commented at the same time that it gives you a visual of God being a strong fortress…a place of refuge..a place to run to to be safe.  It was so impressive yet compared to Him it was so small.

The spa turned out to be a wonderful and relaxing time.  We spent about an hour in a hot pool with about 10 to 12 different “stations” of jets like in a whirlpool…each one was supposed to “treat” a  different area of your body.  If we believe half of what they say we should be healed of every possible ailment and feel 10 yrs younger…we actually felt so relaxed after that we wished they had rooms to take naps in before we drove home.

Instead we went to a ristorante in the town nearby.  It was very unique and had wonderful food.  We would have liked to have tried everything on the menu but  we can only eat so much at a time.  I wonder where they come up with some of the combinations of food , spices and fruits and veggies etc.  What we had was amazing.  The hand made pasta is sooooo good here.  I think I need to learn how to do that when I get home.  It is so much better than out of a box.

We got home feeling refreshed and tired and after a meal of our own creation of brushetta with what we have left and a few games of Five Crowns we went to bed early…

  1. Pasta in Italy...oh my. Even the boxed pasta that the Philpotts brought back from Italy was 100 times better than what is made here!
